Melopita means honey pie in Greek. Melopita recipe is a simple cake that people in Greece were making using only 3 main ingredients such a soft neutral cheese like myzhithra in Greece, ricotta in Italy or brousse in France, eggs, honey and a few little extras for flavourings such as cinnamon and citrus zest, what could be simpler ? :)

serves 6 to 8


  • 400 grams of brousse cheese (or ricotta)
  • 100 grams of liquid honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal or wheat semolina
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of orange or lemon zest (optional)
  • garnish: honey and cinnamon powder


  • place all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well and/or whip to a creamy consistency
  • preheat oven to 180°C
  • butter a large cake pan of 18-20 cm or 3 several smaller cake molds of 8-10cm or 8 mini molds each
  • cook for 40 minutes until golden-brown and remove from oven when the cake's center just barely begins to inflate
  • cool before serving and serve with liquid honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon powder
